Chandigarh, July 26: Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur, announced today that under the Ashirwad Scheme, the State Government has released an amount of ₹13.43 crore for 2,634 beneficiaries belonging to backward and economically weaker sections during the current financial year 2025–26. Sharing further details, the Minister said that this financial assistance will benefit applicants from 15 districts including Amritsar, Barnala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Pathankot, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Sangrur, Malerkotla, and Tarn Taran. Chandigarh, July 24 Underscoring the Aam Aadmi Party-led government's unwavering commitment to bolstering the education and health sectors, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday announced a significant increase in the monthly stipends for Interns, Junior Residents, and Senior Residents across government medical and dental colleges in the state. In a press communiqué issued here, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that there are currently 907 sanctioned Intern posts, 1408 for Junior Residents and 754 for Senior Residents within Punjab's government medical and dental colleges. In his letter, he mentioned that 111 years ago, on July 23, 1914, the Guru Nanak Jahaj departed from Canada to return to India. The ship reached Kolkata's Bajbaj Ghat on September 29, 1914, where the British government opened fire, martyring 19 passengers. Baba Gurdit Singh Ji had boarded the Komagata Maru ship to travel from Hong Kong to Vancouver, Canada. The ship left Hong Kong on April 4, 1914, and reached the shores of Vancouver on May 23, 1914. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that under Project JEEVANJYOT 2.0, a total of 21 child beggars have been rescued from the districts of Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr). She stated that the district child protection teams of the department conducted special raids at the bus stands, railway stations, and other locations in Ludhiana, rescuing 18 children, while 3 more children were rescued from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
