CHANDIGARH, October 13:           Continuing the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state consecutively for the 226th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 364 locations on Monday leading to the arrest of 79 drug smugglers after registration of 63 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 32,867 in 226 days.           The raids have resulted in recovery of 2.9 kg heroin, 2.6 kg opium, 674 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 7850 drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.         &nbs...

Chandigarh, October 13: In a historic decision, the Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday gave nod for enhancing the compensation for crop loss to farmers upto Rs 20,000 per acre.  A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting of the Council of Ministers held here under the Chief Minister. Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that in order to provide adequate relief to the affected persons for crop loss and house damage caused by natural calamities, the Cabinet also gave nod to ex-post facto approval regarding revision of rates of relief amount to be paid from the State Budget for crop loss and house damage. Ajnala (Amritsar), October 13: Setting a new benchmark of public service delivery, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday handed over cheques worth Rs 5.70 crore of compensation to 631 beneficiaries within 30 days, despite a deadline of 45 days, after the floods had caused havoc in the district. Addressing the gathering during a function to disburse cheque of compensation to the flood victims, the Chief Minister said that on September 11, he had announced that after conducting a special survey (Girdauri), the compensation distribution will begin within 45 days. During his visit to Kharar Grain Market, the Minister expressed satisfaction over the ongoing procurement operations and lauded the efforts of farmers, agencies, and officials ensuring smooth purchase despite challenging weather conditions. Chandigarh, October 13: Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur, today informed that under the Ashirwad Scheme, the Punjab Government has released an amount of ₹29.33 crore as marriage assistance to 5,751 beneficiaries belonging to Scheduled Castes during the ongoing financial year 2025-26. Providing further details, Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that under the Ashirwad Scheme for Scheduled Castes, applications of 5,751 beneficiaries were received through the Ashirwad Portal from 17 districts — Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Sangrur, and Malerkotla. Chandigarh, October 12: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the bye-election to the 21-Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency in Punjab. Giving details, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Sibin C informed that the nomination process will begin on October 13, 2025, with the issue of Gazette Notification. The last date for filing nominations will be October 21, followed by scrutiny on October 22, and withdrawal of candidature allowed till October 24. Polling will take place on November 11, and counting of votes will be held on November 14. The entire election process will be completed before November 16, 2025.
