Paddy procurement in acceleration mode, 66679 farmers paid Rs. 1646.47 Crore

Chandigarh, October 7: The paddy procurement during the current season is gathering pace with each passing day as is clear from the fact that till late evening yesterday a total of 824732.78 Metric Tonne (MT) produce has arrived in the mandis of the State. Out of this, 772965.23 MT of paddy stands procured which amounts to 93 percent. The Government agencies have procured 770241.58 MT paddy and the PUNGRAIN (Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation Limited) has taken the lead amongst the government agencies in terms of procurement with 323992.64 MT till now. Furthermore, 66679 farmers so far stand benefitted from the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that US government's decision to ban on beards of Sikh soldiers in the US army is highly condemnable and unfortunate. This action of the US government is also an insult to the Sikh soldiers who fought in Saragarhi and World War. He highlighted that maintaining unshorn hair is an integral part of Sikh religious identity. CHANDIGARH, October 6: Continuing the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state consecutively for the 219th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 335 locations on Monday leading to the arrest of 72 drug smugglers after registration of 56 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 32,054 in 219 days. Chandigarh, October 6: A government spokesperson informed that the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), New Delhi will hold a Public Hearing on October 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the UT Guest House, Chandigarh to consider the inclusion of various castes from Punjab in the Central Government’s OBC list. The spokesperson stated that the purpose of this Public Hearing is to provide an opportunity for representatives of the concerned communities to present their views, facts, and demands directly before the Commission. The State Government has appealed to all community representatives and groups concerned to actively participate in the Public Hearing and present their suggestions and viewpoints before the Commission.

ECI issues Notification for Bye-Election to Rajya Sabha Seat from Punjab

Chandigarh, October 6: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has Notified the schedule for the bye-election to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) from Punjab, following the vacancy that arose due to the resignation of Sh. Sanjeev Arora on July 1, 2025. The term of the vacated seat is up to April 9, 2028.
