Chandigarh, November 26:-In a path breaking initiative aimed at strengthening the functioning of jails in the State besides ensuring the further fine tuning of infrastructure, the Jails Minister, Punjab, Laljit Singh Bhullar today conducted a piping ceremony of newly promoted prison officials at his office in Punjab Civil Secretariat here. Today, stars were pinned on the shoulders of 6 AIGs/Superintendent Central Jails. Notably, 14 officials have been promoted including 6 AIGs/Superintendent Central Jails and 8 DSPs Grade-1. CHANDIGARH, November 25:- Continuing the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state consecutively for the 269th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 309 locations on Tuesday leading to the arrest of 81 drug smugglers after registration of 75 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 38,010 in 269 days. The raids have resulted in recovery of 1.5 kg heroin, 1 kg ganja, 585 intoxicant pills and Rs 5.52 lakhs drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.
