National Commission Meeting to Consider Inclusion of Punjab’s Castes in the Central OBC List

Chandigarh, October 6: A government spokesperson informed that the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), New Delhi will hold a Public Hearing on October 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the UT Guest House, Chandigarh to consider the inclusion of various castes from Punjab in the Central Government’s OBC list. The spokesperson stated that the purpose of this Public Hearing is to provide an opportunity for representatives of the concerned communities to present their views, facts, and demands directly before the Commission. The State Government has appealed to all community representatives and groups concerned to actively participate in the Public Hearing and present their suggestions and viewpoints before the Commission.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Punjab Roadways Superintendent red-handed accepting Rs 40000 bribe

Chandigarh, October 6, 2025: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Balwant Singh, Superintendent, posted at the Punjab Roadways depot-1 in Jalandhar red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 40000. Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB stated that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by a retired driver of Punjab Roadways. “The complainant has approached the VB alleging that the aforementioned Superintendent has demanded Rs 50000 in lieu of preparing his overtime bills pending prior to his retirement. Chandigarh, October 6: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has Notified the schedule for the bye-election to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) from Punjab, following the vacancy that arose due to the resignation of Sh. Sanjeev Arora on July 1, 2025. The term of the vacated seat is up to April 9, 2028. According to the notification issued by the Election Commission on October 6, 2025, the bye-election will be conducted to fill the said vacancy in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the rules framed thereunder.
