Chandigarh, October 4: Ensuring safe and secure travel for school-going children, the Punjab Government has intensified the enforcement of the Safe School Vehicle Policy across the state. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that strict monitoring and enforcement measures are being carried out on priority. Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that from 2022 till July 2025, a total of 13,819 school buses were checked across Punjab, out of which 4,351 buses were issued challans and 87 were impounded. She further said that keeping in view the winter fog conditions, a special drive was launched in August during which 1,486 school buses were checked and 561 challans were issued. CHANDIGARH, October 3:           Continuing the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state consecutively for the 216th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 328 locations on Friday leading to the arrest of 47 drug smugglers after registration of 45 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. Chandigarh, October 3 During a series of meetings held today with representatives from five employee organizations to discuss their demands, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, who also chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee on employee issues, announced that the Punjab Government has issued a notification today to grant maternity leave benefits to ASHA and ASHA Facilitators in accordance with the Maternity Benefits Act, 1961. Congratulating the ‘ASHA Workers Te Facilitators Nirol Union’, the Finance Minister said that under this new notification, ASHA and ASHA Facilitators will be eligible to receive fixed monthly honorarium while on maternity leave. Gurmeet Singh Khudian today informed that the Punjab Government has mapped over 85000 in-situ and ex-situ Crop Residue Management (CRM) machines on the "Unnat Kisan" Mobile App, a one-stop platform designed to make these machines more easily accessible to small and marginal farmers for promoting sustainable agriculture practices and reducing air pollution. Chandigarh, October 2 Highlighting the remarkable success of the state's Taxation department, Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, on Thursday announced that the state registered gross GST collections of Rs 13,971 crore during the first half of the financial year (April–September 2025), a substantial increase compared to Rs 11,418 crore collected in the same period last year, reflecting a significant growth rate of 22.35 percent.
