HIGHER EDUCATION DEPT ELEVATES 27 PROFESSORS TO PRINCIPALS

Chandigarh, August 22: In a significant development to further strengthen & uplift the standards of the higher education in the state, the Punjab Higher Education department has promoted 27 Associate Professors/ Professors to the position of Principal (College Cadre), informed S. Harjot Singh Bains, Minister of Higher Education, Punjab. Notably, all the promotional quota seats are now filled, following these promotions. The recently conducted DPC has cleared a total of 27 names, of which, 13 faculty have been elevated with immediate effect, while, remaining 14 will be promoted according to the seat availability by December 2025. Punjab FM demands Immediate Release of Rs.50,000 Crore by Centre to Cover GST Losses

Chandigarh/New Delhi, August 21 Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema has strongly demanded that the Central Government immediately release compensation of Rs.50,000 crore to Punjab to cover losses after GST implementation. After participating in the two-day meeting of the GST Ministerial Group on health and insurance, rationalizing rates, and compensation cess, Cheema said that since the implementation of GST in 2017, Punjab has suffered a total financial loss of Rs.1,11,045 crore. He added that despite receiving approximately Rs.60,000 crore as compensation from the Centre, Rs.50,000 crore is still pending. Punjab Government warns unscruplous elements engaged in unlawful collection of personal data

Chandigarh, August 20: The Government has received credible reports that certain private operators are illegally collecting personal data of local residents, allegedly on behalf of political parties. Disclosing this here today an Official Spokesperson of the Government said that under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), any collection or use of personal data without consent is a punishable offence. Chandigarh, August 20: In yet another move towards the welfare of labourers, the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government has approved a 10 percent increase in Mandi labour rates. This decision was taken during a Board of Directors meeting chaired by S. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman Punjab Mandi Board. Notably, the Mandi labour rate has been hiked from Rs 17.50 to Rs 19.26 per 37.5 kg bag of paddy, marking an increase of Rs 1.76 per bag. S.
