In this regard, Member of Parliament from Sangrur, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a special relief package for Punjab. Meet Hayer has demanded that Punjab be given ₹20,000 crore as immediate interim relief and, after a comprehensive assessment of the total loss, a larger relief package should follow. Vigilance Bureau arrests BDPO, ex-Sarpanch for embezzlement of Rs 24.69 lakh in panchayat funds

Chandigarh August 31, 2025 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Lakhbir Singh, then Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Jandiala Guru, in Amritsar district, presently posted at block Ghall Khurd in district Ferozepur and Manjinder Singh, ex-Sarpanch, gram panchayat Gehri Mandi, in district Amritsar for embezzlement of Panchayat funds to the tune of Rs. 24,69,949.
