Dhuri (Sangrur), July 20: Continuing mission Gyaan (knowledge) to inculcate reading habits amongst the youth, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday dedicated the newly constructed public library to the residents of the city. The Chief Minister said that he was delighted to be here today to inaugurate this new public library constructed at a cost of Rs 1.59 crore. He said that this two-storey building has a covered area of 3,710 square feet and is equipped with high-end facilities like Wi-Fi, solar power digital analogs and others. CHANDIGARH, July 19:           With the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state completed 140 days, Punjab Police on Saturday arrested 86 drug smugglers and recovered 1.5 kg heroin and Rs 45,700 drug money from their possession. Shehna (Barnala), July 19: In order to inculcate reading habits amongst the youngsters, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday dedicated eight public libraries in Barnala district constructed at a cost of Rs 2.80 crore. Divulging more details, the Chief Minister said that eight libraries in the Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Bhadaur and Mehal Kalan have been dedicated to the people. Chandigarh, July 18 The Patiala GST division has recorded an impressive 40 percent growth rate in GST collection during the first quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, outpacing all other divisions in Punjab. This was disclosed during the quarterly review meeting of the Excise and Taxation department, chaired by Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema. Following Patiala division in growth were Ropar division with 34.97 percent and Amritsar division with 30.26 percent. The department has also successfully met its excise revenue targets, bolstered by intensified enforcement efforts that have effectively curbed the illicit liquor trade.
