Chandigarh, August 23: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their anti-people stance  aimed at depriving 55 lakh citizens of state from free food grains under the Public Distribution System (PDS). Addressing media persons here, the Chief Minister said that out of of total 1.53 crore ration cards in the state, the BjP led government has conspired to discontinue free ration being given to 55 lakh poor. He said that making an excuse of not having KYC the centre had already stopped free ration for 23 lakh poor in July this year and now they have threatened to discontinue this benefit from 32 lakh more individuals from September 30 onwards. CHANDIGARH, August 23:           Continuing the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state consecutively for the 175th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 470 locations on Saturday leading to the arrest of 134 drug smugglers after registration of 95 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. Compounding Fees collection by Legal Metrology wing increases by 121 percent

Chandigarh, August 22: The Legal Metrology Wing of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Punjab, has been on upward trajectory on the multiple parameters such as compounding fees collected, inspections and the verifications carried out this year from April to July when compared with the same period last year. In terms of the Compounding Fees, the Legal Metrology Wing has collected Rs. 1.10 Crore whereas during the same period last year the wing collected Rs. 49.68 Lakh. Hence, the increase amounts to a whopping 121 percent. The wing carried out as many as 5753 inspections while this time the figures of inspections stand at 11,035.
