Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI for demanding Rs 15,000 bribe

Chandigarh, March 7, 2025: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, on Friday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhraj Singh, posted at Police Station Civil Lines, Batala, in Gurdaspur district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused ASI was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the owner of a foundry in Gurdaspur on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. He further added that the complainant had alleged that an FIR had been registered against him at Batala Police Station, where ASI Sukhraj Singh was the investigating officer (IO) in his case, and he had demanded Rs 15,000 to favor him during the investigation. Sharing more details, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that families fulfilling the eligibility criteria can avail the benefits of this scheme in case of any kind of death (natural or otherwise). She further clarified that a woman in the household who is the primary source of income will also be considered a breadwinner, and her family will be eligible for financial assistance under this scheme.
